So, I went to the cinema this afternoon and made a day of it by treating myself to both Megamind and Tangled.
Like a Boss.
Megamind: Very funny. Really started enthusing for teh whole Roxie/Megamind thing. Great soundtrack. But, in the end forgettable.
I was entertained, but failed to have my hyper.
Tangled:
Oh, Mouse. Oh, mousey Mouse. How do you do it over and over again? My goodness. The acting. The layout design. The colours and lighting. What bliss.
I'm in half a mind to show up to my hairdresser's appointment tomorrow morning and just go "Know what, Ulli? Gather the lot int one hand, run it through with one of your razor blades with the otehr and pa-zaaM! A marvelous cut will spring into being. Seriously: I covet that brunette haircut of hers.
Now, I know that script ewas great, but I think it was mostly the visual comedy that had me going. That was some topnotch editing and acting right tehre. Very modern. Loved it.
Hm, Eugene's death scenen didn't get me that much because I knew that magical tear would happen - I wasn't spoiled, but it's just a Disney trope by now.
"I was shot!"
"True love's mourning tear!"
"Sprained my ankle!"
"True love's mourning tear!"
"A homeless man got poo in my eye!"
"True love's mourning tear!"
However, HOWEVER: An immensely powerful scene, that just got me and had my crying silently like a baby? The King's solitary, silent tear, and teh way the Queen brushes it way. My gawd, that broke my heart. I wanted to hug them. I also think it was a brilliant choice to not give them a singular line.
And... just the fact that the whole kingdom releases the lanterns each year for teh missing princess. It's a wonderful sentiment. And the visuals of that sequence... ye gods, that was masterful.
Gotta see that film again. Soon.

For me, it was Mother Gothel. She has to be my top villain ever. Not scary at all to kids, but to grown ups? Ye gads, she's terrifying.
Tangled though... the King's single tear broke my heart. The lantern scene was amazing. The scene that really got me though, because the music + the visuals (holy crap, is Alan Menken not THE GREATEST?!) were so intense, was the kingdom dance. Rapunzel gets everyone dancing... it's just a very moving moment.
Ugh, I just loved it. Megamind was entertaining as well but I felt very much the same as you about it.
