Should I read?
Or would watching it be betetr?
Or should I do both?
If so, in what order?
Might I have passed the enjoyment event horizon at 25?
(This is not condescendign at all. As is, I read Rurouni Kenshin at 17, and I love it dearly to the moon and back, but I'm not certain I would achieve the same level of obsession starting on it now. Because... teh Tokyo arc and its artwork IS sorta *meh* when compare dto the purrrrdy that is Watsuki's later style and all teh delicious angst of Kyoto and Jinchuu arc. Similar things count for "Lady Oscar" or "Ranma 1/2", though in those cases I am sure as FUCK that I would simply eye-roll all over the place had I not seen the animes as a child/teen.)
Opinions, friendlies, I needs them!
And, whilst we're at it: What's this "Death Note", then?
Enlighten me, oh wise ones.
I'll also give you ALL teh reasons why I love Rurouni Kenshin, if you request them, in return.
Well: that's a dorky deal and a half, isn't it?

But BEWARE! If you want to do anything in your spare time, do not start reading it! It's massively long, and will eat your spare time. That said, it's definitely worth reading. I basically... don't usually like manga that much, but this plot, in any format, would be incredible.
I watched the anime until the "Bount arc" I believe (a filler arc), because the anime just had waaay to much filler. It got rather annoying after awhile. So to answer your question, read the manga.
I've only seen the anime of Death note and I enjoyed it. I can't say anything about the manga, because I haven't read it.
I don't like the anime, mostly because the voices didn't match the ones in my head and slightly because of filler. From what I've heard, it's no where near as bad as Naruto's years of filler, but it's really annoying when you're watching week to week. (The manga's had about ten chapters of true filler, as in completely irrelevant to the story line, and a bunch of filler sections that were used to fill in background information. It was awesome.)
I hate Death Note because I think it's ridiculous how many pages are spent in the character's heads wondering what the other characters are thinking. And then they switch to the next character. I never thought it was clever, it was just babble, and there was far too much of "but if I do this, then they'll think this, and if I do that, then they'll to that." That, and I couldn't relate to any of the characters.
*big breath* And Kenshin was awesome. (This is so long, and I am so sorry!)
Then the Tokyo arc hits your right in the kisser, everybody is pushed to their physical limits, Kenshin most of all. Then we get a two-chapter breather to get the Kenshingumi back to Tokyo, and then it's already Psycho-Freak-an-a-bridge-time.
Cue Kenshin's blue screen of death, mental breakdowns, depression, and mutual desertation and finally emotional growth all around. Poor little Yahiko.
Oh, Enishii. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
Plus: Watsuki's later style is so reduced and beautiful. I actually like it and don't just accept it's presence. That's a rarety in Mange for me.
But why bother with Bleach when mangas like Fairy Tail or Full Metal Alchemist are so much better?
Otherwise the general rule is that the book/manga is better than the movie/anime.
